  • Overview

    The Lead Network Engineer will assume the lead role in supporting all network related tasks in support of our government client in Afghanistan. The network consists of both layer 2 and 3 converged infrastructure topologies of data, voice, and IPTV.


    • Provide overall network support and design to maintain current and future networking requirements
    • Determine network and system requirements given broad and/or specific objectives
    • Provide network security support by configuring routers, switches, and firewalls according to company security standards
    • Monitor security measures in place within network perimeter, ensuring security breaches do not occur and information is safeguarded from unauthorized users
    • Provide helpdesk support to include responding to trouble tickets and wireless access requests
    • Monitor network activity and proactively attend to network issues
    • Troubleshoot and document network issues involving network technologies inclusive of IP Multicasting across layer 2 and layer 3 topologies
    • Install new routers, switches, and wireless access points
    • Create and maintain Network documentation
    • Proactively oversee activities involved in quality resolution of complex technical issues, coordinate with appropriate departments to determine positive solutions that increase end user satisfaction, follow through to completion, and communicate resolution results to end user; escalate to management any situation that could adversely impact the service provided to the end user
    • Monitor trends in documented incidents and determine appropriate actions necessary to eliminate future occurrences and improve customer service levels in an appropriate timeframe; respond to 24-hour/7-day-a-week service needs while adhering to established departmental guidelines
    • Provide management with status reports throughout assigned projects detailing project status and timeline, to include: completing a project completion report to document if all milestones and objectives were met
    • Work with third party vendors/ services providing “hands and eyes” support of servers and associated network devices
    • Perform other duties as required


    • U.S. Citizen with an active U.S. Government issued Secret security clearance and the ability to maintain this level clearance
    • Five (5)+ years of network infrastructure experience
    • CCNA or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire 
    • Ability to work with minimal supervision while completing assigned tasks
    • Ability and willingness to work in Afghanistan; ability and willingness to travel to hostile (hazardous, desert) areas on short notice
    • Ability to lift up to 80lbs without assistance
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools including Word, Visio, Excel, and Power Point
    • Working knowledge of the following technical skills:
    • Operating Systems: Windows Server 2003 / 2000 / NT
    • Applications: MS Office 97 / 2000 / 2003, Visio 2000
    • NMS / Analysis: IPSwitch What’s Up Gold/ What’s Configured, Cacti, NetFlow
    • Routing: Cisco 3900/4000 series ISR routers; Protocols include: IP routing/services EIGRP, MPLS VPNs, 802.1q, ISL, EtherChannel, IP Multicast, VMware, SNMP, HSRP, IPsec, DHCP, Traffic Shaping, Voice over IP, Multiflex Voice/WAN modules, Video / Voice QoS (CBWFQ, LLQ)
    • Switching: Cisco Catalyst 2960 / 3850 /4500 series switches, Gigabit Ethernet, 802.1q, EtherChannel, Spanning Tree Protocol, multicast
    • Security: Cisco IOS Firewall, Cisco ASA 55xx, AAA, Radius
    • Wireless: Cisco Wireless LAN Controller (WLC), Cisco Wireless Guest Server (NAC)
    • BlueCoat Proxy Services
    • IPTV technologies: Understanding of transport, middleware, transcoders

    Preferred Qualifications

    • CCNA Voice, CCNA Security, and/or Cisco Wireless certifications
    • Ability to fabricate and test cables (RF and network) and use fiber tools
