    The Communications Engineer will plan, design, and develop telecommunications and networking systems.  This role will include telecommunications product development, network planning, radio frequency/wireless, circuit provisioning, and/or network control.

     

    Responsibilities

    • Analyze, design, program, debug, and modify hardware and/or software enhancements and/or new products used in local, networked, cloud-based or Internet-related computer systems.
    • Analyze equipment and software in a laboratory environment to test performance and identify vulnerabilities.
    • Perform network engineering definition, design, implementation, integration, testing, and support of GSM, CDMA, UMTS and LTE wireless networks within laboratory environments.
    • Oversee the change management of the wireless laboratory network infrastructure and ensure additions and/or subtractions do not impact operational customers.
    • Maintain the system configuration baseline and oversee the configuration management (CM) process
    • Develop software code, stand-alone software applications, and hardware applications to help improve performance and mitigate vulnerabilities. Identifies functional problems and suggests resolutions.
    • Interact with other engineering groups or customers to define, document, analyze, perform, and interpret tests for products, systems, components, or modifications.
    • Analyze test cases and provides regular progress reports.
    • Assist in the definition of internal quality control standards and the maintenance of reliability programs. Adhere to hardware and software quality best practices and procedures.
    • Work with a development team to create and take to market new software and hardware applications. Interact with users to define system requirements and/or necessary modifications.
    • Generate hardware and/or software system architectures and designs that meet requirements.
    • Complete documentation and procedures for installation and maintenance.
    • Perform operations, maintenance and administration tasks, as required.
    • Participate in project review meetings.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government issued security clearance.
    • BSCS, BSCE or BSEE or equivalent experience.
    • 3-5 years of experience with hardware and/or software systems development and testing.
    • Experience with networking and network programming.
    • Demonstrated mastery of relevant hardware and software engineering tools (configuration management systems, build processes, debuggers, emulators, simulators and logic analyzers).
    • Proficiency with capturing and documenting hardware and software requirements.
    • Strong analytical and problem solving abilities.
    • Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communications skills.
    • Self-starter with strong work ethic.
    • Exceptional organizational and scheduling skills and ability to handle multiple projects at one time.
    • Ability to adapt and adjust to changing priorities.
    • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.

    Valued but not required skills and experience:

    • Subject matter expertise in wireless telecommunications.
    • In-depth understanding of current and near-term future planned mobile technologies.
