Globecomm’s terrestrial circuits support a wide variety of services, from video streaming and cellular services to government classified and unclassified government projects. Globecomm’s core terrestrial networks include both Globecomm owned/maintained international optical rings and telecom managed National/International Type I and Type II Circuits.  The Terrestrial Circuits Operator is  responsible for ensuring 100% uptime of customer terrestrial network.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain POPs for core OCx, STM-x, EVPL, EPL, DS3, T1, E1, and tributaries
  • Engineer, install, and operate Globecomm leased Optical, DWDM, Sonet, and Ethernet networks
  • Assist with the engineering and design of terrestrial circuit technologies based on application needs
  • Effectively interface with various specialized Globecomm teams to ensure that all services relying on terrestrial circuits are properly built and operational 24/7/365
  • Maintain responsibility for the highest level of escalation during HAZCON conditions; i.e. 24/7/365 availability if circuit is not operational
  • Support large optical based networks

 

Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government issued security clearance
  • 5 years of practical experience with all aspects of telecom circuit design, engineering, maintenance, and troubleshooting
  • BSEE or equivalent years of experience within the field
  • Proficient in the use and operation of Optical, Ethernet, and ISDN test equipment
  • Knowledge of RFC 2544 testing
  • Experience with the installation, operation, administration, and provisioning of DWDM, CWDM, SONET, Metro Ethernet, G.8032 rings, and TDM circuits
  • Working knowledge of routing and forwarding protocols including BGP, OSPF, MPLS
  • Experience with passive/active OADM, ROADM, and DWDM systems; DWDM and SONET networking, and ring and partial mesh network topologies
  • Experience with in DWDM and SONET Transport hardware in a Core backbone environment
  • Experience with the installation and maintenance of ISP/OSP fiber plants
  • Experience with Ciena, Adtran, and Carrier Access
  • Experience working with telecoms in both type I and type II environments
  • Exceptional troubleshooting, event correlation, and trending skills
  • Ability to create scheduled and unscheduled customer reports
  • Motivation and determination, in order to see all projects through closure within designated timelines with little or no supervision
  • Proficient with the understanding of timing symptoms and issues
  • Ability to work in a team environment with diverse application needs
  • Ability to work directly with clients in high pressure, tense situations
  • Creative thinker that leverages Globecomm capabilities with customer needs to manage expectations while supporting new and existing business
  • Strong interpersonal communications. effective writing, and time management skills
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 35 pounds
  • Ability to travel up to 10%, as needed

Valued but not required skills and experience:

  • Active Secret Security Clearance
