The Senior Systems Engineer will support the network operations of two separate networks – one discreet and one child domain – across a geographically dispersed network. This role supports our client, the Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA), an office of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).


  • Work to identify, triage, and resolve all network related problems globally and locally with an emphasis on information assurance.
  • Maintain and improve upon current information assurance technologies and processes, such as WSUS and Microsoft SCCM that directly impact patching, software/hardware vulnerability mitigation, threat reduction, software and hardware firewall security zoning and defense in depth.
  • Continually evaluate networking products, tools, and technologies, and practices.
  • Develop documentation, standard operating procedures, network diagrams, and other items contributing to network security and FISMA compliance.
  • Work with other members of the network team to provide expertise on a wide range of technologies including: hardware, virtualization in a VMware environment, messaging in an Exchange 2010 environment with Barracuda and IronPort SMTP gateways, McAfee EPO and associated technologies (HBSS, HIPS, and Antivirus), TCP/IP and related network concepts, Authentication in a Microsoft Active Directory environment, and RSA dual factor authentication, as well as PIV/Smart card authentication.
  • Improve on design and scheme of infrastructure vulnerability mitigation, to include servers, workstations, and network equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve network problems in an environment that spans physical, virtual, storage, and networking.
  • Assist with developing, improving, and testing incident and contingency response procedures, as well as maintaining and documenting the results.
  • Contribute to the development and practice of change management processes on the network team.
  • Help design and implement new technical solutions.
  • Detect, identify, and respond to information security issues with regards to servers, workstations, and mobile devices. 
  • Work effectively with cross-functional teams to define technical requirements, identify, and resolve issues.
  • Perform other duties required by the Project Manager, IT Manager, and Network Manager.


  • U.S. Citizen with an active U.S. Government issued Secret security clearance with the ability to maintain this clearance
  • 5-7 years of demonstrated networking experience in medium to large-scale environments
  • Experience with configuring and installing servers, network, and associated infrastructure technologies
  • Experience defining and implementing best practices in network security
  • Experience supporting a VMware virtual environment
  • In-depth knowledge of Active Directory including: Group Policy, DNS, sites and services, user and account management
  • In-depth knowledge of security technologies including: Microsoft Forefront TMG, McAfee EPO, WSUS, and SCCM
  • In-depth server management knowledge with Windows Server 2003/2008, VMware ESX, and HP Servers
  • Knowledge of storage concepts including block and file level storage, management of space on storage array, and EMC VNX 5300
  • Ability to manage storage economy in a SAN environment and ability to ensure hardware is properly maintained and updated
