The Network Administrator will provide technical support for a network consisting of both layer 2 and 3 converged infrastructure topologies of data, voice, and IPTV.        

Responsibilities

  • Provide overall network support to maintain current and future networking requirement
  • Provide network security support by configuring routers, switches, and firewalls per company security standards
  • Monitor security measures in place within network perimeter, ensuring security breaches do not occur and information is safeguarded from unauthorized users
  • Provide helpdesk support to include responding to trouble tickets and wireless access requests
  • Troubleshoot and document network issues involving network technologies inclusive of IP Multicasting across layer 2 and layer 3 topologies
  • Install new routers, switches, and wireless access points
  • Install, configure, integrate, and maintain all Set Top Boxes (STBs), network connections to STBs, and systems supporting STBs including Vendor Monitor Portal operations to include ticket generation with Vendor
  • Monitor IPTV performance (visual and test equipment) on all network segments (RF, LAN, and Fiber)
  • Monitor video and audio quality of services delivered from the Vendor to the end user (analog – digital – IP)
  • Perform daily check of RF Levels and Mini Headend (MHE) alignment
  • Verify video and audio levels for satellite processing equipment
  • Coordinate with Service Provider/Vendor and Globecomm NOC regarding support calls higher than Tier 1; work with third party vendors/services providing support of servers and associated network devices
  • Create and maintain Network documentation
  • Maintain documentation of any changes, wiring alterations, or new additions to Mini Headend (MHE) environment
  • Proactively oversee activities involved in quality resolution of complex technical issues; escalate to management any situation that could adversely impact the service provided to the end user
  • Monitor trends in documented incidents and determine appropriate actions necessary to eliminate future occurrences and improve customer service levels in an appropriate timeframe; respond to 24-hour/7-day-a-week service needs while adhering to established departmental guidelines
  • Use Remedy to enter, maintain, and manage trouble ticket flow and resolution as well as Vendor provided ticketing system
  • Conduct user training and orientation
  • Generate reports on a daily, weekly, and/or monthly basis; reports will include data on the following:
    • Availability, most watched, top 10, degradation, SLA, etc.
    • Project status and completion reports, documenting if all milestones and objectives were met
  • Attend meetings, training, and seminars, as requested
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by management

Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizen with an active U.S. Government issued Secret Security Clearance and the ability to maintain this level clearance

  • CCNA or ability to acquire within 60 days of hire

  • 5+ years of network infrastructure experience

  • Basic understanding of IPTV multicast distribution

  • Ability to learn IPTV and reach a basic understanding of transport, middleware, and transcoders

  • Ability to learn to install and configure STBs and associated IPTV equipment

  • Ability to learn CATV RF Coax Distribution: Amplifiers, Splitters, RF Switches, Combiners, Signal Level Meters

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision while completing assigned tasks

  • Ability and willingness to work in Afghanistan; ability and willingness to travel to hostile (hazardous, desert) areas on short notice

  • Ability to lift up to 70 lbs. without assistance

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools including Word, Visio, Excel, Power Point, and Project

  • Working knowledge of the following technical skills:

    • Operating Systems: Windows Server 2003 / 2000 / NT
    • Applications: MS Office 97 / 2000 / 2003, Visio 2000
    • NMS / Analysis: IPSwitch What’s Up Gold/ What’s Configured, Cacti, NetFlow
    • Routing: Cisco 3900/4000 series ISR routers; Protocols include: IP routing/services EIGRP, MPLS VPNs, 802.1q, ISL, EtherChannel, IP Multicast, VMware, SNMP, HSRP, IPsec, DHCP, Traffic Shaping, Voice over IP, Multiflex Voice/WAN modules, Video / Voice QoS (CBWFQ, LLQ)
    • Switching: Cisco Catalyst 2960 / 3850 /4500 series switches, Gigabit Ethernet, 802.1q, EtherChannel, Spanning Tree Protocol, multicast
    • Security: Cisco IOS Firewall, Cisco ASA 55xx, AAA, Radius
    • Wireless: Cisco Wireless LAN Controller (WLC), Cisco Wireless Guest Server (NAC)
    • BlueCoat Proxy Services

 

DESIRED SKILLS

  • CCNP, CCNA Voice, CCNA Security, Cisco Wireless
  • Ability to fabricate and test cables (RF and network) and use fiber tools
  • Previous experience and use of SNMP monitoring systems, such as Solar Winds
  • Previous TVRO/RO satellite television experience to include installation and antenna pointing
